Red River Gorge

Adam, his brothers Isaac and Joel, their friend RJ, Russ, Margot, Lauren, and I spent 7 days climbing at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky in mid March, 2005. I'm posting photos as I am able. More to come.

We left MN on Friday, 11 March at 5:00 am - drove to Cincy to pick up Margot and arrived at the Grandgeorge's in Berea, KY that night.

Got up for breakfast the next morning and I tried to get some photos of woodpeckers, but they proved too skittish. Got the squirrels instead.

We then headed out to climb at the Torrent crag. Margot top ropes a cool route here called Dream of a Bee.

It was a rather overcast day with cold rock - but the climbs were fun.

Lauren hits the wall (Dream of a Bee) and is reminded of the nasty frostbite she developed on her toes while tearing up a glacier in India.

She makes more funny facial expressions while climbing than anyone else. If only she had Lizzie's foul mouth, she could make a run at most amusing climber ever.

Some of these photos have the potential for being great photos - but I'm disappointed with them. I'll give some reasons why on each.

I really like the depth of field here, and Adam's shirt is a great color for the dreary day. But the gear in the background is distracting and I should have come farther away from the wall to better capture the hold his right hand is on.

Again, distracting background, and if I came further out from the wall, we would have a better view of Adam's left hand.

This is the one that saddens me the most. Great facial expression - terrific body layout. But I cut his foot off and the background remains distracting.
